Who are we...

...and why we scuba dive

Photo of us Amanda and I started diving in 1995 when a windfall allowed us to select a holiday in the Maldives. Well this Island turned out to be occupied by honeymooners who a: had run out of money and b: were content to stay in their rooms. Which left us and 2 bored Divemasters. I say! 2 of you, 2 of us, I make that "dive-o-clock".

Every time we go on holiday we come across these really great people, some pleasure-seekers, some who work in the industry and of course those that live there. In general they're so passionate about diving and the environment that it kind of rubs off. One miserable winter's day, after a few margaritas, we asked ourselves what we would need to do to leave blighty and follow our dream. Work is depressing - we seem to have to work hard in order to pay for the things that make living in England bearable: Weatherproof house, Warm clothes, decent car etc. On the other hand it's a brilliant place to live - we have abundant and diverse wildlife, on a clear summers day you can get up at 4:00am go for a bike ride in the country and listen to the dawn chorus. We have family, health care, abundant food and drink but you know what? I want adventure.

We realized that in order to leave the rat-race we would have to be able to support ourselves abroad and what better way than becoming professional divers. While we have our health and enough steady income to fund the training, we have nothing to lose - Hey, if it all goes pear-shaped we'll just have to go back to work.
